Born To Run Late Winter Newsletter
I hope everyone has been enjoying the mild winter and getting out to exercise. After the last couple of winters, it's nice to be able to run ice-free every day.
As many of you already know, we have moved our Springhouse location a block away to 821 N. Bethlehem Pike, in the same center as Dareen's, Made Ya Look and The Flower Shop. We're one block closer to Ambler on the same side of the road as our old location. Same phone and fax number. Come check out our new digs.
2012 brings many updated shoe styles and some new ones. Asics just updated its DS Trainer after updating the Kayano (Runners World Best Update), 1170 and GT 2170 in the fall. Brooks has a new Ravenna coming out any day after releasing an updated Adrenaline in the fall. More exciting for Brooks is the introduction of its Pure Project running shoes, its first foray into minimalist/natural running. Come check out the Pure Connect, Pure Flow (Runners World Best Buy) and Pure Grit. Everyone who has tried them on has loved them.
Saucony has already ventured into minimalism with its Hattori, which fits just like a glove. They have also updated the popular Guide, Hurricane and Triumph running shoes by lowering the heel-to-toe differentials in order to achieve more "natural" running. Mizuno updated the Wave Rider, Wave Inspire, Wave Creation, Wave Elixer and Enigma. Nike has a new lightweight shoe - the Zoom Elite - not to be confused with the prior light stability model. They also have a new Free Run with a lower heel-toe differential.
In keeping with our enthusiasm for minimalist/natural running, we have brought in the Merrell "Glove" running shoes: the Bare Access, the Dash Glove, the Pace Glove, the Road Glove and the Trail Glove, each with a Vibram outsole. Speaking of which, we still carry the Vibram Bikila and Bikila LS, the Komodosport and the Treksport. We also still carry the Altra "zero drop" running shoes - the Instinct/Intuition (Runners World Best Debut), the Adam/Eve and the Lone Peak. Two new models will arrive in March, the Samson/Delilah (the Adam/Eve with laces) and the Provision/Provisioness a more stable zero-drop shoe. We held a minimalist clinic at Mondauk Park in November and allowed people to try the shoes on and run with them with the aid of a metronome. We are looking to do another clinic in the spring when it will hopefully be warmer.
It must be spring - our Fitflops have arrived! New styles include a nubuck leather Fitflop and a navy espadrille. We also still have clogs and boots in stock just in case it gets chilly again.
Track spikes are arriving daily. We have sprint, middle and long distance spikes for boys and girls. We also have jumping and throwing shoes for field athletes. For the younger runners, we offer children's size running shoes starting at size 12 going up to youth size 7. We also offer children's shoes in wides.
As always we offer a 10% discount to all spring track participants, including high schools, middle schools, CYO and youth programs such as AOC. We also offer a 10% discount to all Girls On The Run participants as well as anyone running/walking for a charity.
For all of you training for marathons or Broad Street (Feb 15 registration) we sell Garmin, Nike and Timex GPS watches. On March 15, Timex is introducing a bare-bones GPS for under $100. We also sell heart-rate monitors beginning at $60.
Finally, we will once again holding the Black Sheep 5K to benefit the Wheeled Scotsman Society on Mother's Day, May 13 at 9:00 A.M. at Warminster Community Park. Come join the fun but please bring your dog, child or headphones. Mike McCloskey of Runners Advocate will be doing the timing and we expect WMMR to be there spinning records (I'm so old).
As always, we meet at our Springhouse location at 5:00 A.M. every Thursday and at our Lafayette Hill location every Wednesday at 6:30 P.M.
See you on the roads.
Happy running
Hilary
