NEW - RUNNING GROUPSWith all of the various situations going on in in and around Fairmount Park, there has been a push for people to run with a buddy or in groups. Therefore, I would like to lead a trail and/or bridle path run down at the park, two mornings a week, around 7:30-8 A.M. If you have questions or need more information please email me at Hgood85@aol.com. Currently Scheduled Group Runs
WINTER NEWSLETTERAs I write the first newsletter of 2010, it is raining torrentially outside. However, I know that many of you still got a run outside today prior to the storm. Winter is a great to time train. The roads and paths aren't as crowded as they are in nicer weather, and you feel great when you're done and inside enjoying a cup of coffee or cocoa. Winter is also a great time to race. The Bucks County Running Club is in the middle of their Winter Series up at Tyler Park in Newtown. Today was the Polar Bear 8 miler with an optional 5.3 miler. The end of February brings us the 11th Annual Frostbite 5-Miler presented by the Ambler Area Running Club. Born To Run is once again a proud sponsor. On March 7 the Northeast Roadrunners has its annual 10K on Kelly Drive. Enough to take your mind off the cold. Winter also brings out new shoe models and styles. In December Nike rolled out its Structure Triax 13, along with new colors for the Vomero, Max Moto and Pegasus. Also in December Brooks updated the Glycerin, Defyance and Adrenaline, with January bringing new colors for the Cascadia trail shoe, the Ghost and Ravenna. Mizuno has updated its popular Wave Rider and also the Creation, Nirvana and Elixer. Saucony introduced an updated Triumph back in November, with new colors in the Hurricane, Echelon and Stabil in January. We hope to receive Saucony's highly anticipated cross trainer any day. Asics updated the Kayano, DS Trainer, GT2150 and 1150 back in November, while February will bring us updated colors for the Evolution and 3010 models. Finally, Adidas has introduced the Solution, a shoe designed for lower-arched neutral runners. People have raved about the fit and feel. Adidas has also softened up the cushioning with its updated Supernova Glide 2. A for what to wear after running, Fitflop has cozy boots and clogs designed to pamper your feet and lower back. The Mukluk is a mid-length boot while the Billow is a cute bootie with fur around the top. The Gogh clog is waterproof, while the Gogh II is a boiled wool toasty shoe. As always, we carry the originial Fitflop is the fabric, suede and patent styles. This March, Fitflop will be introducing children's sizes and mens sandals. Finally, even I have succumbed to the joys of Chris McDougall's book "Born To Run" (how could I not). If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it. He is a wonderful storyteller. In response to overwhleming demand, starting in March, Born To Run will carry the Vibram 5-Finger shoes in various styles including the new Bikele and the trail shoe. We will let everyone know as soon as they arrive. Finally, Born To Run and the Wheeled Scotsman Society will be hold their annual Black Sheep Run in April - April 11th at the Warminster Community Park and April 25th on the Perkiomen Trail in Oaks. This is a 5K for those running with a dog, baby jogger or headphones, all the things banned at "regular" races. It's quite a hoot. This year's race is being dedicated to the memory of Joey Harper, the founder of the Wheeled Scotsman Society, which provides funds to those who need to make their homes handicapped accessible. Joey succumbed earlier this month to Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy. He was only 19 years old (CBS 3 Video Link). Please come out and support the cause. Click here to download the respective applications: Warminster and Perkiomen Get out; go for a run. Enjoy your surroundings. Winter is a time for rejuvenation and trying new things. And before you know it, spring will be here. Hilary
